|Virtual Online Body Trust Course
Many of us have had 'arranged marriages' to Diet Culture but even if you consented, after years and years of trying to make it work, when a union proves to be traumatic, dysfunctional, abusive and downright disrespectful, it's time to leave that toxic relationship and COME HOME TO YOURSELF!

Virtual Online Body Trust Course
About the event
Divorce Diet Culture: Reclaim Body Trust is a trauma informed, intersectional and social-justice orientated journey that will teach the foundations of Body Trust and invites each learner to explore their individual body stories while witnessing the stories of those who choose to share. Through a self compassionate lens, this course will shed light on individual coping skills, Diet Culture's tactics (which are rooted in white supremacy and explain why diets don't work), while also looking at ways that encourage authentic embodiment.
The guide for this class, Angela Braxton-Johnson, pronouns her/she (like the chocolate, Honey Child), is a Certified Body Trust Provider and has been on her own recovery journey for a number of years. She began working with Hilary and Dana in 2018. Being a writer and poetess, Angela shared her poetry at countless Body Trust events over the past several years. In fact, part of her body story and two of her poems are included in one of the books that will be used for this course; Reclaiming Body Trust: A Path to Healing & Liberation by Hilary Kinavey, MS, LPC and Dana Sturtevant, MS, RD. A quote from their book says, "Reclaiming Body Trust reveals a pathway out of a rigid, mechanistic way of thinking about bodies and into a more authentic, sustainable way to occupy and nurture their bodies." And just in time to NOT jump on the New Year dieting bandwagon. Besides, Diet Culture/DC is an entity that has blown up to about 75 billion dollars per year by profiting from our trauma, stigma, body shame and disembodiment.
Throughout our 6 weeks together, we will encourage engagement in courageous and radical conversations. Each class will be a mix of grounding practices, course content, creative writing with optional sharing, optional fun/gentle movement activities with ample time for Q & A. And yes, it's all virtual and can be experienced from anywhere with a signal. In addition to each 90 minute session, Angela will hang out in the Zoom room for an additional half hour for more Q & A and community time.
Participants will also receive two additional eBooks with visual art by Angela Braxton-Johnson, Abundant Fatness and Black Fury: Fierce Recovery, from which she will share select pieces of her recovery-inspired, liberation poetry.
By the end of this course, participants will be inspired to T A K E U P S P A C E and serve Diet Culture (with its devices, lies and BMI's) their walking papers.
